Spurs doesn't feel Carrick's loss to United

Coach : It's better to rely on players that are keen on staying in Tottenham

London: Tottenham Hotspur isn't affected on the loss of international England player, Michael Carrick, to Manchester United.

"We're better off without Carrick", stressed Spurs manager, Martin Jol, after the squad defeated Inter Milan from Italy, 2-1 in a friendly match at White Hart Lane the other day.

Manchester United agreed to offer US$34.59 million (S$54.6 million) to Tottenham Hotspur in the club's effort to acquire midfield player, Michael Carrick.

Jol, from Turkey, realises that he has lost the strength of the England midfielder when the Old Trafford club was ready to offer a wage of 50,000 pounds ($147,000) a week to Carrick.

Jol stated, " You've got to get used to these sorts of situation. Offers like these are the ones that would trigger players to move to other clubs".

"At first, Carrick was comfortable playing with Spurs, but players do have their individual reasons on why they would want to transfer. He has already made his decision to move to United."

"When this happens, it's better for you to rely on players that are still keen to be with Spurs", he added.

Spurs has put in effort to try and maintain Carrick in the squad even though United had initially offered a sum of 10 million pounds.

To ensure that Carrick would continue with Spurs, the club readily offered a new contract to the former West Ham player.

"This was a decision that Carrick made even though we had tried our best to ensure that he continued with Spurs. But, he's still headstrong about leaving us", Jol said in a disappointed tone.

Even though Spurs had lost Carrick, the squad still gave a reminder that they could remain strong to the other clubs in the English Premier League with their victory against Inter Milan.

Both goals by Spurs was made by their midfielder, Teemu Tainio, whereas Inter Milan, the newly appointed champions of the Italian Serie A after the scandals involving Juventus, managed to secure its only goal, kudos to Obafemi Martins.
